Today's topic: absurdity. I'll try and keep it short. Some recent events have been simply, absolutely, absurd. I'll start with ones of a public nature and if I have enough nerve, tomorrow I'll write about the stupid stuff that goes on in my workplace.
Starting from least to most, Absurd #1 is the behavior of our so-called Los Angeles County Sheriff, Lee Baca, perhaps more aptly named Lee Baka-tare. How anyone could have given Paris Hilton such favored treatment as he did is totally absurd, but this topic has been bandied about so much lately that I'll just leave it at that.
Even worse than that is the suit by who has to be this year's most despicable person bar-none, Roy Pearson. That name may not ring a bell but once I tell you that he's the idiot jerk lowlife slimebag that tried to sue a Korean couple who owned a dry cleaning business for $54 million, I'm sure you will all know who I am talking about. This worthless scum should not only be disbarred, he ought to be put in jail or better yet, deported. It also speaks volumes about our sad legal system that even allowed such a frivolous case to get as far as it did. Only in America. Do we really want our country to be the laughingstock of the world? Let the attorneys run this country and most assuredly it will.
Last week I would have put the previous paragraph at the top of my list because something like that would be hard to beat. But this week, it got beat. It got beat by someone that I admire(d) and that is what makes it all the more disappointing to me because I feel betrayed after having defended him so often to the misguided liberals who surround me. That's right, I am speaking about the commuting of Scooter Libby's prison sentence by George Bush. I just cannot believe he would have the audacity to do something like that.
It is absurd enough that Paris Hilton will have spent more time in jail than Scooter Libby. Both of them deliberately flaunted the law but Scooter's violations were much more serious. Paris deserved to spend her time, and she did. Scooter - well, there is really no excuse for letting him off the hook.
But what is even worse than this, something that is a total, total injustice and for which the absurdity is unsurpassed, is how Scooter runs free while the two border patrol agents, Ignacio "Nacho" Ramos, and Jose Compean, are sitting in jail serving time for basically doing their job. That, people, is absurdity at its highest. Has our president no compassion and no scruples? Like I said, I have supported and defended him for the longest time but I wonder if he is going senile. He seems to stick up for those cronies of his who keep getting themselves and their boss in trouble: Donald Rumsfeld, Dick "accidentally thought the guy was a deer" Chaney, Alberto Gonzales, and now Scooter Pie Libby. But what does he do for these two border patrol agents who tried to protect our borders and keep out a known drug smuggler? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. I'm just disgusted. So at the halfway mark of 2007, that's the top three absurdities of the year to date..
